Every year, from February 11(International Day of Women and Girls in Science) to March 8 (International Women’s Day), the IAU Outreach Global Project Women and Girls in Astronomy promotes the inclusive advancement of astronomy by highlighting the importance of gender inclusivity and best practices, fomenting the uptake of astronomy by girls and non-binary folks, and highlighting the contributions of women and non-binary folks to astronomy.
The IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO) invites outreach and science communication practitioners to engage with the programme and contribute to building a more gender-inclusive STEM landscape.
Practitioners can contribute in multiple ways:
• Host an event with the support of OAO to celebrate women and girls in astronomy! You can host a Meet the IAU Astronomers!, organise a “girls only” stargazing night, and much more!
• Promote their own events by registering them in the Astronomy Outreach Event Calendar. We’ll promote the events on our social media.
• Help us promote the program and share it with your community! Feel free to use the poster attached to this email when sharing.
• Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for 26 days of celebrations and don’t forget to use the hashtags #WomeninAstronomy #WomeninSTEM to share inspiring stories.
