Mission

  • Supporting the national program for the development of a science and technology culture through public education which can be accessed by Indonesian people.
  • Initiating and developing the Science and Technology Center in the provinces and expanding PP IPTEK as a national reference for science and technology in Indonesia.

Description

The galleries consist of 12 clusters with 250 hands on interactive exhibits for visitor of all ages to explore. New exhibits will also be developed in the future. Another core activity is to develop programs for students, teachers and public in general. When visiting Pusat Peragaan IPTEK, students receive worksheets as a supplement to the exhibits, in order to have a more meaningful visit. Pusat Peragaan IPTEK also provide thematic visits for schools, linking the school's programme to the exhibits. Activity programs and exhibits in Pusat Peragaan IPTEK are developed based on the National Education curricula. As an 'external school laboratory', Pusat Peragaan IPTEK provides contextual activities. The programs include:

  • Science Shows: a daily performance displaying science phenomena
  • Science Activities: an activity at which students can learn while doing experiments using materials found in daily life
  • Science Camp: in this activity, students stay overnight while doing experiments to interact with life science and nature
  • Star Party: in this activity, students observe the universe through telescopes
  • Science Competition: an activity at which the students go for competition on science and math to achieve The Ministry Research and Technology Award.
  • Workshop Student Science Project: an activity where students learn how to conduct research
  • Science Festival: activities at which students show the results of their experiments to the public.
  • Creative Exhibit Design: an activity which provides opportunity for teachers to learn to build exhibits for teaching their students
  • Workshop Science Skill Process: an activity at which teachers learn how to conduct research in science teaching
  • Children's Days: an activity to celebrate the National Children Day
  • Family activities: workshop activities for families to learn science together, and
  • Traveling Exhibits: interactive science experiences for rural communities and other provinces in Indonesia.

All of these activities are attended by school-aged children during holiday seasons. Teacher activities are usually conducted in the middle of school semester, while family activities are regularly held during school holidays. Pusat Peragaan IPTEK also supports the development of new science and technology centres in other provinces in Indonesia.
