Mission

National Museum of Natural Science

Our goal at the National Museum of Natural Science is to collect and preserve the biological and cultural diversity in Taiwan and neighboring countries. We aim to stimulate the public’s interest in the natural sciences and world cultures through creating engaging exhibits and educational programs. We are committed to the expansion of our international exchange of exhibits, research, and collections, which allow us to enrich our institution, and contribute to the study of museums through publications.

Description

The Museum is a five-venue complex housing the Space IMAX Theater, Science Center, Life Science Hall, Human Cultures Hall, and Global Environment Hall, plus the Botanical Garden, the 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan at Wufong, the Fonghuanggu Bird and Ecology Park at Lugu, and the Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park at Chushan.

The permanent exhibits provide a historical foundation in the natural sciences in the fields of zoology, botany, geology, and anthropology, while the temporary exhibits involve current scientific knowledge and concerns. The Museum also outreaches the temporary exhibits to remote places inside or outside the island, or even to other countries.

Various kinds of educational programs are designed for teachers, general audiences, student groups and families. The public is able to access the museum's education function through such channels as symposiums, lectures, demonstrations, guided tours, field trips, children's activities, traveling events, school outreach, community services, consultation services, publications and online learning resources.
